Frequently Asked Questions

Do I get a discount?

Yes, discounts are available. Please see our Frequent Sailor Program for details.

Do I need experience?

No prior sailing experience is required; we welcome everyone from complete novices to seasoned sailors. Our professional crew will provide all the training you need.

Can I choose my destination?

Yes, you can choose your sailing destination based on available routes and preferences. Please discuss with our team.

On Wind Shift, there are no passengers—only crew. This means you’ll be involved in the daily running of the ship: standing watch, helming, trimming sails, assisting with navigation, and helping in the galley. It’s a hands-on learning experience that makes the arrival at each destination much more rewarding.

What does it mean to be "Active Crew"?

Will I get seasick?

Seasickness can happen to anyone, including experienced sailors. We recommend bringing your preferred motion sickness remedy. Most people find their "sea legs" within the first 24–48 hours as they settle into the rhythm of the ocean.

What is the accommodation like?

Our 70ft expedition yacht is designed for offshore comfort. You will be staying in shared cabins with comfortable berths equipped with lee cloths for safety at sea. Space is at a premium on a boat, so we encourage "smart packing" in soft-sided bags.

What is the food like?

We take our food seriously! Expect fresh, healthy, and hearty meals. We source local ingredients at every port—from tropical fruits in Polynesia to fresh spices in Malaysia. We can accommodate most dietary requirements (vegetarian, gluten-free, etc.) if notified in advance.

Consider an expedition a chance to "unplug." While we have satellite communication for weather and emergencies, we do not offer high-speed Wi-Fi for guests during offshore passages. Near the coast, you can usually use a local SIM card or roaming.

Is there Wi-Fi at sea?

Is the yacht safe?

Safety is our absolute priority. Wind Shift is a commercially coded vessel to Category Zero, which means unlimited for offshore and ocean crossings. It is equipped with the latest safety gear, including liferafts, EPIRBs, AIS, and personal PLBs for every crew member. Our skippers are highly qualified professionals with thousands of ocean miles and circumnavigation experience.

What is included in the cost?

What about visas and entry requirements?

Visa requirements vary wildly by nationality and destination. While we provide guidance and the necessary ship’s papers for entry by sea, each crew member is responsible for obtaining their own visas. We recommend checking the requirements for each country on your chosen leg well in advance.

The cost covers your berth, bedding and linen, all food, non-alcoholic beverages and snacks on board, safety equipment, and professional coaching. It excludes flights, travel insurance, shore excursions, and personal alcoholic beverages.

Yes. All crew members are required to have comprehensive travel insurance that covers "Sailing/Yachting" at the appropriate distance from shore for your specific leg.
