Matt Harvey

Matt Harvey, founder and skipper of Sail Seven Seas, brings an exceptional blend of lifelong passion and hands-on experience to every voyage. Growing up in the UK, he learned to sail dinghies off the South coast of England, igniting a deep love for the sea early on. In 1996, after migrating to Australia, he dove into the world of yachting, dedicating over a decade to completing the rigorous Yachtmaster program. For Matt, real mastery comes not from textbooks but from the experience gathered on the water—a philosophy he embraced while honing his skills aboard his own vessels, including a Hanse 415 and a Sun Odyssey 37.

An MCA Yachtmaster Ocean, AMSA Sailing Master NC Offshore, and MNZ Master Yacht <24m, his credentials underscore his readiness to navigate some of the world's most challenging waters. In 2021, he acquired Wind Shift in Tahiti, sailing her back to Australia for a comprehensive three-month refit. Since beginning commercial operations in May 2022, Wind Shift has embarked on remarkable journeys, circumnavigating Australia, spending six months in the Pacific, and making multiple exploratory trips to and around New Zealand.

With over 40,000 nautical miles under his belt and experience with more than 250 crew members from all walks of life—from high-level professionals to dedicated homemakers—Matt has witnessed the incredible transformative power of expedition sailing. His leadership not only navigates challenging waters but also forges lasting bonds among crew members, creating a unique, shared journey that transcends the ordinary.
