(19 days)
Embark on an epic 1,800 nautical mile adventure from Nosy-Be, Madagascar. We'll begin by exploring the island's wild west coast before a thrilling crossing of the Mozambique Channel. Our journey then takes us to Ilha de Moçambique and onward, cruising the magnificent Mozambican coastline. We’ll finally cross into South Africa to reach our final destination of Richards Bay.
This incredible passage offers a blend of pristine beaches, unique ecosystems, and ancient maritime traditions. As one of Africa's most diverse coastlines, it's a world-class destination for diving and snorkeling. Its vibrant coral reefs are teeming with marine life, from graceful manta rays and gentle whale sharks to playful dolphins. The area is a key migration route, offering a front-row seat to the wonders of the ocean.

What to Expect: Madagascar, Mozambique to South Africa
The Passage of the Giants
Sailing from Madagascar to South Africa is a journey of transition. You’ll leave behind the humid, vanilla-scented air of the tropics for the cooler, exhilarating winds of the Southern Ocean. This voyage is a true sailor’s passage, navigating the powerful Agulhas Current and making landfall in one of the world's most dramatic maritime gateways.
Life on Board
The Daily Rhythm
Who is this for?
Active Ocean Racing & Cruising: This leg is for those who love the thrill of the "Big Blue." As part of our active crew, you’ll be at the heart of the action—managing sail trim for the powerful "Trade Winds," learning offshore weather routing, and helming our 70ft expedition yacht as she surges through the Mozambique Channel.
The Navigator’s Strategy: Under the expert guidance of our skipper, you’ll learn the technicalities of "Current-Riding." Navigating the Agulhas Current requires strategy and respect; you’ll gain hands-on experience in blue-water seamanship that few sailors ever master.
The "Watch" Connection: There is a unique camaraderie that forms during the night watches of a 5-to-7 day crossing. You’ll share stories under the Southern Cross, watch the bioluminescence dance in our wake, and enjoy the profound silence of the open sea.
The Channel Crossing: The run from Madagascar to Mozambique is fast and focused. You’ll settle into the rhythm of ship life—morning navigation checks, afternoon fishing (expect yellowfin tuna or wahoo), and evening debriefs as the sun sets over the African continent.
The Mozambique Stopover: Weather permitting, we’ll explore the turquoise lagoons of the Bazaruto Archipelago. Here, the massive sand dunes drop straight into the sea, offering some of the most surreal landscapes in all of Africa.
The South African Arrival: Landfall in South Africa at Richards Bay is an unforgettable experience. The sense of achievement after crossing the Channel is unmatched.
This leg is for the adventure-seeker and the mile-builder. It is ideal for those who want to experience the power and beauty of the open ocean and gain serious offshore credentials. If you have a passion for wildlife, a respect for the sea, and a desire to see the "Big Five" of the ocean (whales, sharks, dolphins, seals, and penguins), this is the voyage for you.
