Samoa, Wallis and Futuna to Fiji

Join us for an adventure unlike any other.

5 Jul 2026 - 21 Jul 2026
(16 days)

Embark on an amazing experience, sailing a total of 760 NM from Samoa to cruise Wallis and Futuna/Alofi and then onto Fiji. The islands are of volcanic origin, with Wallis being a low-lying island surrounded by a stunning lagoon and a barrier reef dotted with uninhabited islets. Futuna and its neighbor, the uninhabited Alofi, are more mountainous with steep volcanic peaks. The region's culture is deeply Polynesian, with strong ancestral ties to Tonga for the Wallis islands and Samoa for Futuna, a blend that coexists with their French administrative status. With very limited tourism, the islands offer a rare and authentic experience, with activities focused on exploring their natural beauty, from snorkeling and diving in pristine lagoons to hiking up volcanic peaks and discovering ancient Tongan fort ruins.

What to Expect: Samoa to Wallis & Futuna to Fiji

The Path Less Travelled

While most trans-Pacific yachts skip straight from Samoa to Fiji, Wind Shift veers off the standard milk run to visit the hidden gems of Wallis and Futuna. This leg offers a rare blend of traditional Polynesian "Fa'a Samoa" culture and a surprising touch of French Pacific charm.

Life on Board

The Daily Rhythm

Who is this for?

  • Expedition Mindset: This is a voyage of discovery. Because Wallis and Futuna see so few visiting yachts, our itinerary is flexible. You’ll assist the crew in navigating rarely-visited coral passes and anchoring in pristine lagoons where yours is often the only boat in sight.

  • Active Participation: You are an integral part of the crew. Whether it’s helping with a midnight sail change, learning to read the nuances of the South Pacific swells, or managing the lines as we move between these remote archipelagos, you will gain hands-on blue-water experience.

  • Sustainable Exploration: We travel with a "leave no trace" philosophy, interacting respectfully with local communities and enjoying the bounty of the ocean. Expect fresh, tropical meals and a close-knit, collaborative environment on deck.

  • The Passage: The sailing between these island groups involves short, 1-to-2 day "hops." These are perfect for those who want to experience the thrill of the open ocean without the commitment of a multi-week crossing.

  • The Stopover (Wallis & Futuna): Expect a "French Polynesia" vibe without the tourists. We’ll explore the stunning crater lakes of Wallis and the dramatic, mountainous landscape of Futuna, where life moves at a pace unchanged for decades.

  • The Arrival: Landing in Fiji is always a highlight. We’ll navigate through the outer reefs to reach the lush islands of the Lau group or the vibrant ports of the mainland, greeted by the legendary Fijian "Bula!" spirit.

This leg is for the cultural collector. It’s for the traveler who wants to visit the places that don't have airports or five-star resorts. If you have a curiosity for remote history, a love for French-Polynesian fusion, and a desire to see the "hidden" Pacific, this is the expedition for you.
