What to Expect: Thailand, Andaman to Sri Lanka
The Grand Bay of Bengal Crossing
Sailing from Phuket to Sri Lanka is an expedition that bridges the gap between Southeast Asia and the Indian subcontinent. This route is rarely traveled by commercial tourism, offering a sense of "old world" exploration. You will navigate the deep waters of the Bay of Bengal, where the only lights at night are the stars and the bioluminescence glowing in the yacht's wake.
Life on Board
The Daily Rhythm
Who is this for?
The Rare Andaman Stopover: Because the Andaman Islands belong to India and require complex Restricted Area Permits, few sailors ever see them. You’ll assist the crew in the technicalities of arriving at these remote outposts, where we’ll explore untouched rainforests and beaches that feel like they belong in a prehistoric era.
Deep-Sea Seamanship: This is a serious offshore passage. As an active crew member, you’ll master long-range navigation and weather routing. You’ll be involved in the 24-hour watch system, learning to maintain the yacht’s peak performance as we harness the seasonal monsoon winds for a fast, exhilarating ride.
The "Oceanic Reset": There is a unique mental clarity that comes with a multi-day crossing. Between your stints at the helm, you’ll have time to disconnect, enjoy the rhythm of the sea, and share the camaraderie of a small, dedicated team on a 70ft expedition vessel.
The Passage: Life follows the "Watch Bill." You’ll experience the thrill of the 4:00 AM watch as the sun rises over an empty horizon, the excitement of landing a Yellowfin Tuna for lunch, and the peaceful focus of steering under a blanket of Southern Hemisphere stars.
Wildlife Encounters: The Bay of Bengal is a corridor for incredible marine life. Keep a sharp lookout for pods of Spinner Dolphins, Pilot Whales, and the majestic Sea Turtles that frequent these deep, cobalt waters.
The Arrival at Galle Fort: There is no landfall quite like Galle, Sri Lanka. Spotting the 16th-century lighthouse and the towering ramparts of the Dutch Fort from the sea is a moment of pure triumph and a perfect end to a thousand-mile journey.
This leg is for the hardcore adventurer. It is ideal for sailors looking to log significant offshore miles and for travelers who want to visit "off-limits" destinations like the Andamans. If you crave the silence of the deep ocean and the reward of reaching a historic shore under your own power, this is your expedition.
